Cascade Mt. Video Show ’15 & The Northwest Filmmakers Expo

The Cascade Mt. Video Show is back! for the last 14 years Professional Video has hosted CMVS in February of each year. CMVS showcased equipment from as many as 40 different manufacturers and hosted as many as 600 customers. This year, however, we elected to not host CMVS in February. It was a busy time for us with hot new products launching and we were feeling like the old equipment trade show was a little tired.

Instead, we’ve entered a new partnership with the Northwest Film Center. For over 41 years the Northwest Filmmakers Festival has been a premier event focused on the local filmmaking community. Since our focus on Pro Video has shifted to cinema gear, as the Northwest’s only full-line Canon Cinema EOS and Sony CineAlta dealers, it made sense to combine these events to add another filmmaker focused dimension.

The whole Festival itself is a mutli-day event that kicks off with the equipment trade show, followed by the opening night party. There is also the Filmmakers Un-Conference, and an event titled What’s Wrong With This Picture. There is also dozens of independent films that will be screened.

Come out speak with and see equipment from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Blackmagic, Zeiss, Fujinon, Zacuto, Atomos, and more! We’ll have the new C300mkII, the new FS5, the new URSA Mini, the new DVX200, the LS300, the Shogun & Assassin, the Milvus lenses. There will also be hands-on technology workshops hosted by manufacturers that will run all day.

Tickets are $10 but you can get in for FREE by registering with the promo code nwffvip. You can read more about the Northwest Filmmakers Expo here. To register for the show and get your FREE ticket (with promo code nwffvip) please visit us here. You can buy tickets for $10 at the door on the day of the show. The event is at the Portland Art Museum on Thursday, November 12th. It will be in the Sunken Ballroom at 1119 SW Park Ave. The show will be from 10am-5pm and then will transition into the opening night party.

CMVS ’14: Sony CineAlta Certification End to End Production

Sony is extremely proud to be bringing their full-scale Hollywood CineAlta certification course to Portland for the Cascade Mt. Video Show. We’ve taken an 8 hour course and condensed it to 2 hours for CMVS ’14. This is the very same training the Sony provides to Hollywood D.P.s and camera operators so they can gain a better understanding of the tools they need to create their art. This course is presented as a complete hands-on training class. You and your classmates will go hands on shooting 4K RAW with Sony F55 CineAlta cameras. After shooting your “movie” scene you’ll enter the post production phase where you’ll get first hand experience with managing RAW data and color grading in DaVinci Resolve. After post production wraps we’re going to the big screen. Your footage will be screened, analyzed, and enjoyed on a cinema-level 4K projector, the very same kind used in theaters across the country. Shy of attending the Sony training in Los Angeles this is a rare opportunity. The best Sony technology certification is coming to you.

The presentation will take place on February 26th at 1:00pm. You can register for the show here and attend for free.

CMVS ’14: Picture This Presents The MoVi Revolution

The MoVi is a handheld 3-axis digital stabilized camera gimbal, so advanced, it redefines the possibilities for camera movement. The heart of the gimbal is Freefly’s proprietary high performance IMU and brushless direct drive system. The gimbal is 100% custom designed in-house by Freefly’s engineering team. No compromises were made to accommodate off-the-shelf brushless motors, motor drives or IMUs. Creating the gimbal from scratch allowed Freefly to precisely execute our vision for the next generation of stabilized camera gimbals. In creating this camera gimbal, Freefly aims to empower a new era of stabilized cinematography.

Portland’s Picture This Production Services rents the MoVi 10 system. They’re trained expert will be on hand at CMVS providing real-time demonstrations and one-to-few workshop-lite.

The presentation will take place on February 26th. MoVi orientations will be running from 10:30am to 4:30pm. You can register for the show here and attend for free.

CMVS ’14: Still Motion Presents Force of Habit: It’s Holding You Back

Join Amina Moreau of Stillmotion for a discussion about the art of the purposeful choice. Never again will you choose a camera just because it’s cool. Or use a certian kid of stabilizer just because it’s already attached to your rig. And perhaps most excitingly, never again will you approach a scene in a certain way just because it’s how you’ve always done it. We’re going to discuss why you choose the lens you use, why a certain camera is the right fit, why you use specific settings on your camera, and more.

Whether you’re fairly new to filmmaking or a seasoned veteran, there’s one thing we can find in common: It’s easy to fall into patterns. At first glance, that’s not so bad really. We find what works, and we stick with it. Why fix something if it ain’t broke? Because that’s just not how creativity works.

To keep things fresh and challenging, and to grow as storytellers, we need to push beyond our habits. We need to commit to making meaningful decisions, ones that are truly story-relevant.

The presentation will take place on February 26th. Part 1 will be at 11:30am and Part 2 will be at 3:30pm. You can register for the show here and attend for free.

CMVS ’14: Panasonic Offers Sneak Peak of Coming Technologies

Panasonic will be hosting a seminar where they will be revealing new technologies. Panasonic is a company that is dedicated to complete solutions. They have felt that, up until just recently, cinema, 4K, and RAW technologies haven’t been implemented in a way that makes practical sense to most of the world. Remember the revolution Panasonic set off when they teamed up with Apple over 15 years ago to create a native editable codec, capture, edit, export: 1 format. That’s the kind of revolution Panasonic wants to create again. At CMVS there will be a discussion about what these technologies will look like and why they are worth the wait.

The presentation will take place on February 26th at 9:15am. You can register for the show here and attend for free.
