This is a simple introduction to the Canon C100 written from the perspective a still photo shooter who has been using a DSLR to shoot video and is ready to step up. It also includes video and images from Portland area production company Still Motion.
The Canon EOS C100 is an amazing camera, but using it effectively may take a bit of practice. Users will benefit from customizing the camera’s settings for greater control. I found that it takes quite a bit of menu diving to access the setup options, however, and the miniscule thumbwheel/joystick doesn’t help. (The joystick is located on the grip unit on the camcorder’s right side. The grip may be removed, but then you won’t be able to change any camera settings that require the joystick.)
Regarding image quality, I believe the footage I shot with the C100 has better color separation than that shot with my standby Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The C100 comes across to me as more “professional” than a lot of other cinema-shooting DSLRs. Once you get used to the setup and handling of the C100, you may find it difficult to go back to shooting with antiquated DSLRs. The C100 and its siblings are going to be the pathway to the future. All of the best features of a DSLR have survived and you have more capability in audio and video without a much larger footprint. Continue Reading. Post by Eric C. Petrie
Lots of good stuff this month. Black Friday specials, EOS cinema trade-in program, Libec holiday discounts, & more. Read it all here.
Canon has begun releasing their highly anticipated Cinema EOS firmware update. If you own a C100, C300, C500, or 1DC keep your eyes on this website and check back frequently. The only camera with firmware that has been released is the EOS C100.
For some reason Canon hasn’t posted the C100 firmware on the official “Canon Cinema EOS Cameras Firmware” website. You can, however, find the latest C100 firmware on the C100 website here. Click the button that says “Drivers & Software” Then click the “Firmware” drop down menu. The current firmware is dated 11/13/13.
The EOS C300 actually had the firmware released but Canon pulled it because it was discovered that it tweaked some of the color profile settings creating inconsistent color reproduction under certain circumstances.

Professional Video has found a new home. If you know where our current office is don’t worry, you won’t have to re-learn the drive. We’re just moving to a different office in the same complex. Our new home will meet the needs of our business a little better. We should be all in and settled by December 31st. In the meantime our current office might seem a little disheveled (even more then normal). Our new address will be 10240 SW Nimbus Ave, L-11, Portland OR 97223. Come on by and check it out once we’re in.
