Video: VariCam LT Infrared Footage, I.R. Filter Removed

One of the often overlooked hidden gems of the Panasonic Varicam LT is the user-removable IR filter.

As Panasonic puts it:
“The Cinema VariCam LT has an integrated, detachable IR cut filter. This feature allows 4K image capture in extremely dark unlit nightscapes. This is ideal for capturing nocturnal wildlife and other scenes with no illumination. Also, the IR filter can be used in daylight as a creative tool for achieving a unique look.”

I recently worked with an astral photographer here in Portland who explained to me the reasons why a removable IR filter is such a killer feature for that line of work. The ability for an owner/operator to remove the IR filter themselves for a specific shoot is a great feature that sets the VariCam LT apart. Its not something that everyone will use but for a select crowd it could be a clincher.

FREE Metabones EF Adapter w/ Fs7 & Fs5 Is Back!

For a while Sony had been running a promo where you received a free Metabones EF lens adapter with an Fs series of camera. However, they discontinued the promo a few months ago. The good news is the promo has just been brought back. Now, when you purchase any Fs7 or Fs5 camera, as well as the Fs700 and EA50, you qualify to receive a FREE Metabones Mark IV EF adapter.

It is important to note that this is a MAIL-IN claim system…. the adapter is not in the camera box. This has tripped up some buyers who were planning on using the adapter with the camera immediately only to discover that it takes 4-8 weeks to receive the adapter.

However, we’ve been helping customers out with what i call the Metabones buy-back plan. If you need to use a Metabones adapter right away simply buy one at the time you buy the camera. Then, when you receive your free Metabones adapter via the mail in 4-8 weeks, i’ll buy it from you. That way you get to start shooting with the adapter right away and it doesn’t really cost you anything additional in the end.

You can buy take a look at the Sony Fs7 here and the Sony Fs5 here.

Also, for any customers who purchased a Sony Fs series camera between May 10th and July 31st when the Metabones promo was suspended, Sony is officially honoring your claims for the FREE Metabones adapter.

Sony Updates F5 with Lower Price Bundles

Hello, This isn’t breaking new news as these packages prices have been running since about May but I thought it was worth re-posting as it seems many people to have not heard of this. There are a couple of great bundles on Sony F5 running right now.

For $12,995 you get
Sony F5 camera w/ 4K firmware all updated
Sony LCD Viewfinder
Sony VCT baseplate/shoulder pad
Sony SxS card reader
Davinci Resolve 12 full copy
OR for $13,995 you swap out the Sony LCD viewfinder for the extremely nice OLED viewfinder.
We’ve had a version of these kits running since last fall but previously it included a Sony a7SII camera body, a $3,000 value, but the price of those kits was $16K and $17K respectively. In May they removed the a7SII body from the kit and simply added $3,000 of additional savings instead, bringing the prices to the current $13K and $14K respectively.

Additionally, we’re offering 0% $0 down financing for 24 months on all Sony F5 and F55 kits. The F5 kit w/ the LCD viewfinder would come to $542 a month over 24 months. Or you can chose 36 month financing at about 6.5% interest, which is about $389 a month over 36 months.

Depending on what you are looking for in a camera and how you are intending to use it there are several possible advantages when compared to the Fs7. Now that the price difference between the Fs7 and F5 is significantly less some may consider spending the extra money to move to the F5.
